Bob’s TNR

Tuesday February 26, 2013
Starting from DQ on Caribou St between 4th & 5th Avenue NW
6:15 start time

Last week, one rider suffered through Mistress Tuesdays “I’ll show you cold” ride.
This week, another “about face”, just below zero, maybe some light snow.
Streets are in rough shape, but our alleyways (where we spend most of the ride) are still nice.
We can expect a few puddles, some slush, and some nasty-frozen-ruts to deal with.
In other words, another fun-filled Tuesday Night Ride.
Daylight is with us for the first 25 minutes, dusk for the next 30, and darkness for the last 30.
Try not to overdress, think Spring!  If you start to get cold, we will just ride harder!

Wear a helmet,
Bring water to drink,
Check the air in your tires.

Sunset is 6:40
Civil Twilight is 7:12
Nautical Twilight is 7:50

See you on the trails,

This week, more ABOVE AVERAGE temperatures and a well-established base.
Also, lights are not required “to see with” for the first 30 minutes of the ride!
Expect a fun ride as usual.

Wear a helmet,

Tuesday February 5, 2013
Starting from DQ on Caribou St between 4th & 5th Avenue NW
6:15 start time

Last week, two riders braved -26 temperature with a -40 windchill.
This week, high of -3. Hawaiian shirts and Speedos are recommended.

I don’t normally endorse products, but the “T-Max Heat” socks I got for christmas work excellent.
They are like having a stuffed animal on your feet, and it reminded me that my next pair of winter shoes should be a half-size larger.
Good on their own to -15 or so, I used liner socks (Peavy Mart) with them last week. Only $10/pair at Mark’s if you can still buy winter gear.
For ‘normal’ winter and spring/fall temperatures, get a pair of Merino wool socks from Boh’s. They work like magic.

Wear a helmet,
Bring water to drink,
Check the air in your tires.

Tuesday January 29, 2013
Starting from DQ on Caribou St between 4th & 5th Avenue NW
6:15 start time

Last week, two riders learned that even the smallest amount of exposed skin will freeze.
This week, falling temperature, periods of snow, high wind chill.  This is a ride for those who think they are tough, Mistress Tuesday is going to have something to say about that.
It is definitely not a ride for those in my “social network” that spend too much time posting complaints about cold, wind, snow, ice and “when is it going to be over”.

Wear a helmet,
Bring water to drink,
Check the air in your tires.

Sunset is 5:51

Starting from DQ on Caribou St between 4th & 5th Avenue NW
6:15 start time

Last week, one rider, +3 C during the ride, probably one of the nicest January rides EVER!.
This week, more fresh powder and normal winter temperatures.
On a scale of 1 to 10, expect tonights ride to rank as an 8 or higher.

Wear a helmet,
Bring water to drink,
Check the air in your tires.

“Ride and Reach” with Ryan Leech

From our Coordinator of Youth Development, Rob Walcer:

Hi everyone,

I have been arranging a “Ride & Reach” workshop with Ryan Leech for Saturday, June 15, 2013.  Ryan is a certified yoga instructor and member of the NORCO Factory Team.  He has been facilitating these retreats at places such as Whitehorse, Silver Star and Fernie.  This is the first time that this workshop will be held in Saskatchewan.  This one day retreat will begin in Moose Jaw with a 2 hour yoga session, followed by a bike skill workshop and a trail ride at Buffalo Pound where we can apply the bike skills.  The day will end with a flow yoga session.  The space is limited to 12 participants so I recommend you register early.

Information on the workshop and registration is available at: http://shop.ryanleech.com/collections/frontpage/products/ride-reach-moose-jaw.

If you have any questions send me an email at rob.walcer@sasktel.net

Last week, two riders, drifting snow made the ride interesting.
This week, a fresh base and above average temperature.
For the most part the route travelled is sheltered from the wind, expect the friction between your tires and the ground to affect your speed more than the wind.
Of course, crossing the 9th avenue bridge is always an adventure in itself.

Bring water to drink,
Check the air in your tires.
