Tuesday Night Ride
March 21, 2017
6:15 pm Start Time
Leaving from DQ on Caribou St W between 4th and 5th Avenue.
First Day of Spring!
Does that mean we can ride on the trails? Not yet.
Here are the guidelines that I follow:
If the paved streets are wet, don’t ride on the trails yet.
If the streets are dry but the alleys are wet, don’t ride on the trails yet.
If the streets and alleys are dry, you can try the paved and gravel pathways that make up the Rotary Trail. Don’t ride on the valley trails yet.
If the Rotary Trail is dry, you can try the valley trails that are away from the river and receive sunlight. Stay off the trails that are riverside or North facing.
When the primary river valley trails are dry, then you can start attempting the secondary trails on the riverside and North facing. Note that some trails are more sensitive than others and won’t be ready yet. A couple trails won’t be ready until July!
If you decide NOT to listen to my guidelines, be prepared to damage the trails, damage your bike, and damage your reputation. Also, the ugly scar you leave on the trail, gives credibility to other trail users that say “bikes wreck the trails” and “bikes should be prohibited from the trails”.
Having said all that, tonight’s ride will be on the paved pathways that make up the Rotary Trail. Just about any bike will be sufficient. I will be riding a mountain bike with smooth, “balloon” tires.
Its Spring, put away the videogames and get outside.
